Throughout the world, the rapid evolution of the social and economic environment has brought diverse, far-reaching implications. Technological change and phenomena like globalisation are having a dramatic impact on society. Patterns of learning, living and working are changing rapidly and people must adapt in order to sustain progress. An advanced knowledge society is the key to higher growth, so our project proposed to improve access to information and to develop new competencies in adult learners without discrimination of age or gender, in order to prevent social exclusion and marginalization.
Also, social and economic conditions in rural areas represent a disadvantage for people living there as regards access to information and education. Different approaches to life and difficulties of communication between generations put a special stress on development and development strategies
Access to information and development of people's competencies to prevent social exclusion and marginalization, and an understanding of the concept of unity in diversity have a deep involvement in developing the EU as the most dynamic and competitive knowledge based economy in the world.
Taking all this into account, the project proposed to enhance the information access and competencies development through adult people. It aimed to further intercultural dialogue and understanding by helping people in geographically and socially disadvantaged areas to become involved in the development of rural and agritourism activities based on a clear knowledge, understanding and respect of cultural differences. The project considered that exchanges among partners, organizations and learners from different countries represent a way of coming into contact with the culture, legislation, experience and knowledge of countries other than one's own. The partnership enhanced the skills and means required for taking advantage of local development opportunities and the creation of viable rural or agri-tourism activities as an alternative for persons against being disadvantaged or marginalized.
